Training Week 1 MCRD Parris Island Training Matrix
During Marine Corps recruit training week 1 at Parris Island, recruits receive instruction on military history, customs and courtesies, basic first aid, uniforms, leadership and core values. They begin to learn discipline through close-order drill and hand-to-hand combat skills through the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, which is made up of various martial arts styles.

WEEK ONE TERMINOLOGY
- Academic Classes: Classroom instruction. Recruits are taught Marine Corps knowledge, customs and courtesies, among an abundance of information relating to the Marine Corps.
- COD: Close Order Drill
- Physical Training: Recruits take part in exercise, whether it be running, agility, push ups, and pull ups.
- H/CUT - 1(F): 1st haircut- follow series
- H/CUT - 1(L): 1st haircut- lead series
- MCMAP: Marine Corps Martial Arts Program
- Religious Services: Recruits are given time on Sundays to practice their religion. This gives them a chance to catch their breath and take a break from Drill Instructors.
- Academics Practical App: Recruits put to practice what they learn in the classroom.
- Core Values Guided Discussion (CVGDs): Recruits are taught about the core values of the Marine Corps, honor, courage, and commitment.

- Tuesday, T1: Academic Classes, Intro to COD, COD, CVGDS
- Wednesday, T2: Intro to Running Mech, Physical Training, Academic Classes, COD, CVGDs
- Thursday, T3: H/Cuts 1 (F), Physical Training, Academic Clases, COD, CVGDs
- Friday, T4: H/Cuts 1 (L, Fe), Academic Classes, MCMAP
- Saturday, T5: Physical Training, COD
- Sunday, S1: Religious Services, CVGDs, COD

The training matrices are available for free download on MarineParents.com and RecruitParents.com websites and on Official Marine Corps websites (see links below for both Parris Island and San Diego). We also have a printed 11x17 matrix poster and our literature available at no cost to you in many recruiting stations around the US.
